An Internet service provider (ISP, also called Internet access provider, or IAP) is a company that offers its customers access to the Internet. The ISP connects to its customers using a data transmission technology appropriate for delivering Internet Protocol datagrams, such as dial-up, DSL, cable modem, wireless or dedicated high-speed interconnects. ISPs may provide Internet e-mail accounts to users which allow them to communicate with one another by sending and receiving electronic messages through their ISPs' servers. (As part of their e-mail service, ISPs usually offer the user an e-mail client software package, developed either internally or through an outside contract arrangement.) ISPs may provide other services such as remotely storing data files on behalf of their customers, as well as other services unique to each particular ISP. From Wikipedia under the

I've been using AT&T but it costs me around 50 bucks a month . Is there a cheaper high speed internet service provider available? Does anyone know about People PC? I'm in California state. Thanks Asked by nph - Wed Aug 29 13:00:37 2007 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments A. A comment here on Coolcube's post --- PeoplePC HAS a DSL service !! And, it starts out with a two month Free -- modem included free-- deal -- then the charges go to $29.95 monthly !! You should contact AT&T because they have an advertised and much promoted "deal" that brings AT&T / Yahoo to you at a base rate of $14.95 per month -- and a service that is an upgrade that they call their express dsl and THAT is going for $ 19.95 per month !! All of this with a one year service contract required --- SO I don't know what "deal" you're on with AT&T -- but they ARE offering considerably better offers than what you are paying !! Answered by LARRY J7 - Wed Aug 29 13:17:11 2007 my internet service provider charges fed. & state tax, on service. is that legal?
Q. I recently heard about a bill to ban any future tax on internet service and i understand that there is currently a ban on all such tax. My internet service provider charges a fed tax and a local tax on internet services, is this right. who do i contact in government, about this question? Asked by rocking granny - Fri Oct 19 11:47:20 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. A company cannot "charge" a federal, state, or local tax. Only the government can. Your provider either a) collects from you a tax that the government (not them) imposes on you. If such a tax exists, then it is not merely legal, but required, for them to collect it. However, if the tax does not exist, then they should not be collecting it. b) bills you for a tax that the government charges them. This is not necessarily illegal, but may violate your contract with them, if it allows them only to charge you a certain dollar amount (or rate) plus the amount of any taxes imposed on you.
