A hospital is an institution for health care providing patient treatment by specialized staff and equipment, and often, but not always providing for longer-term patient stays. Today, hospitals usually are funded by the state, by health organizations, (for profit or nonprofit), health insurance companies or charities, including by direct charitable donations. In history, however, hospitals often were founded and funded by religious orders or charitable individuals and leaders. Similarly, modern-day hospitals are largely staffed by professional physicians, surgeons, and nurses, whereas in history, this work usually was performed by the founding religious orders or by volunteers. TypesSome patients go to a hospital just for diagnosis, treatment, or therapy and then leave ('outpatients') without staying overnight; while others are 'admitted' and stay overnight or for several weeks or months ('inpatients'). Hospitals usually are distinguished from other types of medical facilities by their ability to admit and care for inpatients and the others often are described as a clinic. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License What laws are relevant to a hospital that failed to bill my insurer within a timely manner? Q. My insurer has a 95-day limitation on debts. The hospital did not get the bill to them in that amount of time. Now the hospital wants me to pay them since the insurer won't, even though it's the hospital's fault. What laws (or ideas) can I reference to the hospital's bill collector? I don't believe that I should be liable for payment. P.S. This is in Texas. Asked by V.S. - Wed Jun 3 15:27:04 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. I actually couldn't find a law directly on point skimming over TX statutes. The underlying issue seems to be why the bill was not delivered in a timely manner. For example, the process may be different if the hospital issued a bill on day 45, but it was never received, versus if the hospital sent the first bill on day 100 (not common in the industry I assure you). Assuming the hospital is familiar with your insurer and their policies, they should have handled the matter. What you probably need to do next is get a full accounting from the hospital as to what invoices were sent to whom when. Based on that, its possible this may end up in court, where you and/or your insurer sue the hospital. Other thoughts? Is this training them for a new profession or is this a deductible expense for the company and a nonreportable income for the CNA's? Also, if the nurses can't work for the hospital for at least a year the company wants some of that educational assistance back. what are the tax consequences of the returned funds? Asked by mountaineermatt - Fri Oct 19 09:19:35 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. yes, some do :) you just have to ask around, some have sponsorships as well as assistance. i know nothing about tax consequences, but i do know some hospitals do help out with the schooling expenses, one of my sisters did it for a while, but she also worked for the hospital. Q. I am 15 years old and in the Health Sciences Academy, so I have to volunteer at the hospital this summer. I was wondering where is a good area at the hospital to volunteer in? I don't want to volunteer in the general hospital floors, cause I did that last summer and hated it. So I was wondering what is an interesting area to volunteer in besides office work?
