Nounhospital (plural hospitals)
Related termsDanishFrom Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. A hospital, in the modern sense of the word, is an institution for health care providing patient treatment by specialized staff and equipment, and often, but not always providing for longer-term patient stays. Its historical meaning, until relatively recent times, was "a place of hospitality", for example the Chelsea Royal Hospital, established in 1681 to house veteran soldiers. Today, hospitals are usually funded by the public sector, by health organizations, (for profit or nonprofit), health insurance companies or charities, including by direct charitable donations. Historically, however, hospitals were often founded and funded by religious orders or charitable individuals and leaders. Conversely, modern-day hospitals are largely staffed by professional physicians, surgeons, and nurses, whereas in history, this work was usually performed by the founding religious orders or by volunteers. Today, there are various Catholic religious orders, such as the Alexians and the Bon Secours Sisters which still focus on hospital ministry. From Wikipedia under the

I'd like to get my very lovable cat to make hospital visits to a local hospital in my area, but I don't know what's required of an animal to make such a visit. For example, would my/a cat have to declawed to visit? Does it depend on the hospital? Or is it a general code in most hospitals? Some wards will not allow but others might. You will not be able to take a cat into a ward with pregnant women or under 1's for example, due to the risk of toxoplasmosis. Many hospitals allow people to bring in pets for terminally ill children to stroke, (as it's proven to be therapeutic). The cat will not need to be declawed. However your cat must be cleared for fleas, worms, etc. Also the cat must be controlled at all times. Please don't listen to Andrew. You simply can not just waltz into any hospital with a cat, (or any other animal for that matter)! There are simply too many health related problems associated with pets to allow that to happen.… [cont.] Answered by loopyannielou - Thu Mar 29 16:37:38 2007 Can hospital provide education expense reimbursement by paying for a CNA to get a RN degree?
