if you dont asign private ip addresses in hosts in a lan will the network work?
Q. if you asing to hosts in a lan ip addresses that are not private (for example 1.0.0.1)will the lan work if the hosts arent connected to the internet?if they are connected to the internet will it work?

A. You must not use public addresses in a local network. If any machine connects to the internet showing such an address, your ISP will disconnect you and you will be liable for any legal costs if your action causes disruption of other's service. If one of them even tries to send an email this will happen. There is no need to use public addresses, as there are thousands of private addresses available.

How do I find out what is locking my hosts file?
Q. My Hosts file is locked, and I think it's a virus. Nothing I have has it locked (ad-aware, spybot, hostsman, zone alarm). My anti-virus, etc. hasn't shown anything, and I did a housecall, and it shows two viruses that could not be removed automatically. Is there any shareware or the like that can trace what programs are accessing the hosts file?

Is it possible to have to 2 hosts sharing internet connection to each other?
Q. I have a motorola cable modem, and 2 computers, is it possible to configure both computers as hosts to host the other computer dinamically?? while one computer is the host the other is the guest of course, but is there anyway to make that change dinamically? withou me having to worry myself with changing that manually or is it possible to have ICS on both computers and configure the IP of them manually?? how?

A. im not sure which modem u have. i have the motorola surfboard, which has a usb and ethernet output, but using this to hook up 2 comps won't work fast even if you have high-speed. if you want to bridge your connections, then yes you can have 2 hosts. if you have 2 etherenet ports on one comp, connect that one to the internet and connect the other comp to it by ethernet. simply brige the connections. if you don't have 2 ethernet ports on either comp, use a wireless connection on the first and ethernet the comps together and bridge connections. they will both have the same ip if theyre in the same house, and editting the ip addresses could stop either of your computers from having internet in the first place. i suggest getting a linksys… [cont.]
