Q. school this year is going to be a drag. this is my last year in middle school. but i am having the most evil teacher (Ms. Faulkner) in the whole school for homeroom Strike 1. and my best friend since kindergarden is moving back to Mexico Strike 2. My best friend since 1st grade is moving Strike 3. and to top that off my worst enemy since second grade. (he thinks he is all that just because he can draw he is as dumb as a post. he gets F's in all his classes where i get all A's but he thinks he is better than me. OMG he get on my last nerves. A. Wow. That story seems almost too sad to be true. I go back Wednesday next week and I'm homeroom with this really nasty girl who tries to be my friend then starts a fight and gets everyone who likes me as a friend to turn against me. She is a manipulative brat and I want her to move to Antarctica. But at least you have your crush. Mine is a year older than me, so he is going to high school while I'm stuck in 8th grade. I'll see him in high school though. Why do you think your BFFs might be moving away? Did they tell you it's a possibility?

A. A year-round school is my choice when I am still young. I get vacations throughout the year so I can see distant friends and cousins. Once I am a junior in high school, traditional. I want to be able to take extra classes during summer vacation --- things I don't have time for during the regular year.

A. My daughter started kindergarten on Monday. We're in Missouri. Good luck in your sophomore year. It can be tough, speaking as someone who already went through it. Don't give in to the peer pressure. Unsolicited advice can sometimes be considered criticism, but if I could go back and talk to myself at that age, I'd let myself know that most of the other kids in your school are doing the same thing you are...worrying about what everyone else thinks of them. The truth is, our high-school years are very self-centered. If you're too busy worrying about what everyone else thinks of you, chances are good that everyone else is worrying about the same thing. So be yourself, don't give too much weight to what other people say about you. … [cont.]

Can our school district save money by using one boiler to heat 3 schools on one property?
Q. Currently, Our school district is in the process of planning to replace the boilers of the Elementary school, the Junior High, and the High school, for an estimated cost of $12 million. Would is be possible to have just one larger boiler in one of the schools and pipe the steam in insulated pipes to each school? The three schools are only separated by a football field and a track, so they form a triangle on the same property.
Asked by Jason - Sun Aug 9 00:17:17 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. "Pushing" steam that far is very questionable. You should look into using hot water rather than steam. You could probably make the system work more efficiently if the boiler was centrally located. That would involve a new facility but in the long run, your cost for maintenance and total heat cost would be much less. It is usually cheaper to heat with hot water than steam.

A. -Usually Ti83 graphic calculator Texas Instrument safest choice lots of schools won't let you use anything else -Graph paper -Binders -loose leaf(lots) -dividers(pocket ones best) -Pencils -Pencil crayons -Pens Red, black, blue (all these colors for correcting) -Highlighters -White out -Dictionary -Geometry set (get a good one its better to get an expensive one once then 5 cheap ones after they break) -Ruler -Folders to bring work home rather then dragging whole bag home -Reinforcements -One of the whole punch things that go on the rings of your binders are always handy Notebooks with subject dividers with a folder for handouts works well too.

A. School hours do not change based on region in Japan. Japan has unified education in the entire nation. Usually schools start around 8am and kids leave around 2pm. So they stay at school about 6 hours.

Asked by rockin_it - Mon May 12 22:13:14 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. If you go onto the ADA's website and look under education, you can find a tool that will allow you to search by state and specialty the answer you're looking for as far as the schools in California. Class sizes and tuition varies between every orthodontic program...the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota accepts a class of 1 every year, other programs take up to 15 people or so...average class size is about 5 or 6 for most programs. There are about 300 seats a year available for people applying to become orthodontists, and about 1000 people apply for them every year. Tuition ranges from full-ride to 90K+ per year. Use the ADA's website to find the schools you would like to apply to, and go from there. If you are considering applying for… [cont.]

A. Don't get me wrong, the more you learn the better, but some people who don't know any better feel like you have to have a PhD in physics to be a pilot and completely ignore the bigger issues. This is my experience as a person who has trained through their commercial pilot land. I know there are many airline pilots on YA who could give a far more detailed answer especially as the ATP written is concerned. The only math I'd suggest putting extra emphasis on is algebra and trig. Really most of math in flying (time enroute, fuel burn etc) at the most low tech levels is done on an E6B. Takes about 15 minutes to learn the ropes and once you pass your private you can use an electronic one which is just like a calculator. Flying big iron… [cont.]

A. I going to go with mixed agreement with all. I went to an obscure State School and go into a top tier Grad school. I will also add I was accepted to two Ivy leagues. It is a weighted factor in your acceptance to a grad program...but it is not the only thing. Given that a great deal of CEOs have a degree from a state school universities want to have a wide view of who you are and why should they attach their name to you. If you are a graduate of State U with national accomdations, published articles, and internships with high ranking government officials. You will be hard to turn down. But if you are applying just submitting your grades and application, like everyone else...then you will be on the bottem of the list, with others… [cont.]

Asked by nickname - Tue Jul 15 09:27:36 2008 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments

A. There is a common misconception that a "Commercial Pilot" is the same as an Airline Pilot. This is not necessarily the case. A Commercial Pilot Certificate simply allows you to operate an aircraft for hire. Much like a Commercial Driver's License. In order to act as Pilot In Command of an airliner, you need what's called an Airline Transport Pilot certificate. So, if someone is a commercial pilot, that doesn't automatically make them an airline pilot. Is a high school diploma required to obtain your Commercial Pilot Certificate? No. The requirements are as follow (directly from FAR 61.121) Be at least 18 years of age. Be able to read, speak, write, and understand English Pass the required Commercial Pilot knowledge test. A. Honestly, your best chances of going to Harvard Medical School is acing all of your classes, acing the MCAT, doing tons of research (Harvard likes research), and do lots of extracurricular activities. Oh, and some luck and good fortune. Your undergraduate school won't mean squat if you don't do well. But as someone else mentioned, Harvard isn't even the best medical school. Johns Hopkins and Mayo on the other hand... Good luck!

What could a high school teacher or staff do if they smell cigarette smoke on a student?
Q. My friend smokes before and after school (not on school grounds) so at first period you could smell it on him. He's 15 by the way and never smokes during school. So what if a teacher or staff smells the cigarette smoke on him, what could happen to him. He's a fairly good student, doesn't do any other bad things except smoking and has ok grades. Also, he never does it on school grounds. He just does it just to relax because he just recently lost him mom and his dad passed away when he is a baby.

What is a day in the life of an Elementary School Teacher like?
Q. A few months ago I made a career change and decided to become a teacher. I currently teach an after school program. The thing is, this position isn't really letting me know what it's like to be an elementary school teacher in the school board. I have many questions: 1. Besides teaching your specific grade, are you also required to do extracurricular activities with children after school? Such as drama club, etc.? 2. Are you required to do fundraising for your school? 3. Are you required to put on events like school plays, etc.? 4. Must part of your day be in the school library or cafeteria for a school period? 5. Are there enough free periods to grade papers and lesson plan while students are at other class periods like gym, art, computers, [cont.]

A. 1. We are not required to do extracurricular activities, but it certainly provides a sense of fulfillment (and looks good to administration). 2. Teachers are required to allow their students' families to participate in PTO fundraising events. We're generally required to attend fundraising events (like fall festivals) unless we've got a good excuse. 3. We're not required to put on events, but again, it looks good to administration and provides the community a chance to see what's going on in school. 4. That depends on the school. At my school, we're not required to sign our students up for scheduled library time, but a good teacher makes sure students have the opportunity to access library books on a regular basis. Why holiday breaks at school if not everyone celebrates it? What happened to seperation of school and church?
Q. I don't get why certain religions get special treatment at schools. You don't see Jehovah's Witnesses getting holiday breaks, but you do Christians. Are certain religions considered more important than other in the school system or something? How do you feel atheists? Should we even HAVE time off for religions? Shouldn't everyone just take their own time to do their religious practices and not jeopardize their children's education? Why should ALL children miss school JUST so a CERTAIN group of people can worship their God? It doesn't make any sense to me! Your thoughts?
Asked by meh - Mon Mar 30 11:58:53 2009 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments

A. If you study History you will find that the majority of people in the US were Christians and schools set their calenders accordingly. Once Holidays are set it is hard to remove them. No it has nothing to do with separation of church and state which only had to do with making sure that the government never set up a church like was done in England.

Is a school food provider allowed to become a monopoly inside a school?
Q. Our school food provider has been yearly reducing food quality and raising food prices. On the foods that they can't lower quality, they raise prices faster. Cans of soda there are 1.25$, and that is one of the cheaper things. Three pieces of chicken about the size of the space between your pointer and thumb if you make a circle are $4.75. On top of that the lunch program doesn't allow other competition, even vending machines. We can't even order food from outside of the school. Is this allowed?
Asked by Jack Urbs - Thu Nov 26 18:31:34 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The food service is seperate from the school. They are an outside food service company that have to bid for the job every year. When bidding, the company has to submit a menu and prices. If the food service is charging crazy prices, the school knows about it. If they are there, then they won the contract and there prices are better than anyone else who bid most likely. Changing prices mid-school year is a no-no. I would bring your own lunch, They cant stop you from doing that. $1.25 is alittle high for a school, but not crazy. You are paying for refrigeration, convienence...
